Brackentelle Pastured Eggs sits quietly in the rolling landscape of South Kolan, halfway between Bundaberg and Gin Gin, where a family has turned a long-held dream into a thriving regenerative farm. Owned since 2019, the property is home to free-range, pasture-raised hens, a small herd of rotationally grazed cattle, a collection of beloved pets, and two alpacas who take their job of flock protection very seriously. It’s a place where animals live as nature intended and where farming is guided by a deep respect for the land.
Both owners grew up on farms, carrying an early love of the land into adulthood. After nearly 25 years in professional careers—and years of part-time weekend farming— they made the leap into full-time agriculture. A year of planning, building, and Safe Food Queensland accreditation laid the foundation for what Brackentelle is today: a local producer of clean, green, nutrient-rich eggs and sustainably farmed food.
Their hens roam freely all day, foraging across fresh pasture and contributing naturally to soil health. The cattle follow in rotation, creating a complementary system that regenerates the land season after season. It’s a rhythm that benefits the animals, the environment, and the quality of the food they produce.
Today, their eggs are enjoyed across the Bundaberg region—on café menus, through local butchers and small retailers, at the Shalom Markets, and at the monthly Bargara Beachside Markets. They value selling locally because it keeps food miles low, strengthens community connection, and gives customers the chance to meet the farmers behind their food.
Pride is a constant theme for the family—pride in producing ethically raised food, pride in seeing customers return week after week, and pride in knowing families are enjoying what they’ve worked so hard to create. Farming, they say, is full of long days, early mornings, challenges and triumphs, but it’s always worth it when someone tells them they can taste the difference.
Looking ahead, they hope to expand into direct-to-consumer beef sales while continuing their commitment to regenerative farming. For now, they are grateful each day to live in their “patch of paradise,” growing local food for a community that truly values it.
